Giresun - Turkey

Giresun, which is in Eastern Black Sea Region, is founded on a peninsula. Giresun, is one of the pearl like cities of Black Sea where green and blue are hug together at northern east of Anatolia.

Known as Cerasus, the city was famous in ancient times for its cherry trees. The English word cherry is derived from the name of the city, which formerly also appeared as Kerasun.
Giresun has valuable both historical and natural places. As historical places, it has Giresun Castle, Various Ancient Bridges, Old houses. Virgin forests, plateaus and rivers of Giresun are very attractive.

One of its town is Yaglıdere where my school is placed in. The town derives its name from the Yaglıdere River that divides the town into two. It is a small town with huge green forests.

My School
My school is in the town center of Yaglıdere. It is a boarding school with just 105 boarded students. There are 650 students that their ages ranges from 7 to 14. in the school. There are 27 classes, a laboratory, a music class, a technology class in the school.

THE TRADITION OF MY SCHOOL

This tradition is held on every 23rd of April. This day is very important for all the children in Turkey, because it is The National Children’s Day. Every school in Turkey are obliged to celebrate this day with their performances during the day. We do celebrate the day in the morning as the other schools in Turkey. Poems are read, performances with music are done, etc.

The distinctive habit that we do in the evening is a torclight procession. The procession start at school with both the students and teachers. The students take their places as some of them are playing the drums in the school band, some of them are holding torclights,

some of them are singing. When the school band starts to play, all the students are getting ready to walk around the town with their teachers in the school.

The students are start to walk from the school When, they are walking around the town, they are playing the drums, holding the torchlights and singing their favourite songs together.

The school band is in front of the students to make them the rhytm.

They all enjoy the night, because it is their night. What else can say for their enjoyment?

Teachers and the headmaster are also the part of this activity. They all join this night and they stand among the students like a student.

The headmaster of our school is among the students like a student in the first picture.

The teachers are having fun like children because it is Children’s Day and everybody misses its childhood.

The people in the town are also the audience of the night and they throw candies on the students from their balconies

After the jogging, the group comes back to the school. The teachers and the students are taking photo for the memory of the night.

After that, the students and teachers are dancing together with music and enjoying the night.
