Topoľčany - SLOVAKIA

The City of Topoľčany

Town Hall

Founded in the 9th century, Topoľčany was a regional market centre during the Middle Ages located on the western bank of the Nitra River and on a crossroad of trade routes. Topoľčany is a small town of population of 29000 people lying 100km north-east of Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. The Nitra river creates a wide valley between the two mountain ranges which are visible from the town - Tribeč (east) and Považský Inovec (west). A large army barracks is located in the city, since during the Communist era there were about 2,000 troops stationed in the city. The surrounding forests are full of abandoned bunkers. Our city is famous for its famous Topvar brewery and of course, the world famous ice-hockey players Lubomir Visnovsky and Miroslav Satan come from this area.
